Are Facilities Your Focus?govgreen2010_exhibitor_usgbcncr_speakstoattendee

There is $4.5 billion in stimulus money set aside to make federal buildings more energy efficient -- and another $1 billion for new construction. According to an article published in the Chicago Tribune in February, GSA currently has 240 rehab projects identified or underway. For any firm designing, building or rehabbing commercial space, that’s a market worth investigating. For the rest of you, these are projects that will define how best to renovate to acceptable green standards and what the price premium is for rehabbing buildings to meet the performance standards set by Executive Order 13514.

Making existing federal buildings more energy efficient can involve anything from new windows to building management systems to designing and building a $121 million new exterior wall that wraps around the original building.
